Here you can see my work as I photograph music colleagues. The thing that most separates musicians as photographers from ‘REGULAR” photographers is…That we can anticipate phrasing in music. We can hear the silence in between the notes and we know when deep musical choices are being made. Something that totally escapes photographers with zero knowledge of musical performance or music theory. Very interesting and unique results come from this.

Many musicians have a deep passion for photography and have transitioned into successful careers as photographers. Their experiences in the world of music often bring a unique perspective to their photography. Here are a few musicians who have turned to photography.

  1. Graham Nash: Known for his music with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Graham Nash is also an accomplished photographer. His work includes portraits, landscapes, and social and political documentary photography.
  2. Annie Leibovitz: While she is primarily known as a world-renowned portrait photographer, Annie Leibovitz’s early career included music photography. She worked for Rolling Stone magazine and photographed many famous musicians and bands.
  3. Michael Stipe: The former lead singer of R.E.M., Michael Stipe, has pursued a career in photography and art. His work often explores themes of identity, politics, and the human condition.
  4. Lenny Kravitz: In addition to his music career, Lenny Kravitz is an avid photographer. His photography often focuses on street and fashion photography.
  5. Mick Fleetwood: The drummer and co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, Mick Fleetwood, has a passion for photography. He has exhibited his work and released a book titled “Love That Burns.”
  6. Bryan Adams: The Canadian musician Bryan Adams is also a talented photographer. He has captured portraits of many celebrities and has worked as a fashion and portrait photographer.
  7. Patti Smith: Patti Smith, a musician and poet, is also a photographer. Her photography often reflects her connection to the punk rock scene and her exploration of visual art.
  8. Henry Diltz: While he is primarily known as a folk musician, Henry Diltz is also a photographer famous for his work during the 1960s and 1970s music scene. He captured iconic images of musicians like The Doors, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and many others.
  9. Björk: The Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk is known for her experimental music, and she is also an avid photographer. Her visual work often complements her music and artistic projects.

These musicians turned photographers have used their artistic sensibilities and creativity to make a mark in the world of photography, often bringing a fresh perspective to the art form. Their dual talents highlight the interconnectedness of various art forms and the ability to explore different creative outlets.
